Assam Cabinet decision to hold special TET to appoint Bodo language teachers hailed

The State Cabinet on Wednesday accorded approval to starting the process for the appointment of 22,921 sanctioned vacant posts in the Education department

LAKHIMPUR: The State Cabinet on Wednesday accorded approval to starting the process for the appointment of 22,921 sanctioned vacant posts in the Education department – 10,000 in Elementary schools and 12,921 in Secondary schools, besides holding a special TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) for the filling up of 1,464 vacant teachers' posts for ST (Hills) candidates. The appointment process for the same will start from upcoming September 1. Moreover, the cabinet decided to hold special TET for the filling up of language teacher posts for Bodo, Garo and Manipuri.

Three Bodo community organizations, viz- All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), Bodo Sahitya Sabha, United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) have hailed the decision of holding special TET for the filling up of language teacher posts for Bodo, Garo and Manipuri. In this context, Bodo Sahitya Sabha central committee member Bhumidhor Bodo, Jonai district committee president Dilip Basumatari, general secretary Manik Bodo, Dhemaji district committee president Julen Chandra Bodo, and general secretary Sushil Basumatari said that the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, along with other Bodo community organizations, had demanded to hold special TET among the Bodo youths in order to appoint them as teacher. They added that the decision would mitigate the problem of teacher shortage in Bodo medium.

Similarly, hailing the decision, ABSU Dhemaji district committee president Lakhen Basumatari, general secretary Udang B Bodosa also stated that the decision taken by the State Government would lighten the burden of problems in Bodo medium school to a great extent.

On the other hand, UBPO State president, Manoranjan Basumatari, general secretary Pitambar Brahma and chairperson Badal Mussahari thanked the State Government for taking the decision of holding special TET for filling up of language teacher posts for Bodo along with Garo and Manipuri. The UBPO dignitaries said that their organization had demanded the State Government since a long time to hold special TET for the Bodo youths. They further stated that the execution of the initiative adopted by the State Government of late would uplift the academic environment of the Bodo medium schools. UBPO Dhemaji district committee president Ratiram Basumatari and general secretary Dipankar Narzary also hailed the cabinet decision.
