GUWAHATI: The Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia slammed the Raha MLA for meeting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"I don't see how one can still be a Congress member after wearing a BJP gamusa," Debabrata Saikia commented in response to this.

Debabrata Saikia made the statement when Raha MLA Sashi Kanta Das met with Assam's Chief Minister and shared mementos.

The member from the Congress was said to be joining the BJP shortly, but Das refuted the rumours.

Das informed the reporters that he had simply gone to see the CM to swap gamusas that he had bought from home and to discuss issues associated. In addition, Das stated that he had no plans to join the BJP.

He went on to say that there were times when radicals threatened Das, but Congress stood with him at the time. "At this point, the party leadership will determine what to do about the reports and what actions to take," Saikia continued.

Earlier this year again Debabrata Saikia was again in highlights for again passing remarks on the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, the state election commission should bar Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly violating the set of ethical standards by, among many other things, offering government house construction assistance to voters at election rallies.

Congress leader Saikia filed a complaint with the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), seeking that Sarma be prevented from campaigning in the by-elections on October 30.
