Assam: Case against IT official for ‘torturing’ housemaid in Tinsukia

The Tinsukia police registered a case against an Income Tax staffer and his wife after their housemaid lodged an FIR alleging physical torture and forcible confinement.

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia police registered a case against an Income Tax staffer and his wife after their housemaid lodged an FIR alleging physical torture and forcible confinement.

Sarada Tasha (23), a resident of Nokrai Bagan, Sarkari Ali Line Borguri, Tinsukia, stated that the couple, Arnob Ramba and his wife, Ritu Ramba, tortured her regularly in the residential complex of the Income Tax Office in Tinsukia. She has been subjected to beating and torture since 2022, and she has attempted several times to flee, but every time they bolted her from outside, Tasha alleged. The situation came to such a point that on October 31, her screaming for pain attracted the neighbourhood, which informed the police. The police rescued her, and she underwent a medical examination, which revealed bruises all over her body. She was sent to Sakhi, a rescue home on Gelapukhuri Road. Tinsukia Sadar Police registered a case (625/23 u/s 323/342/34 IPC) in that connection.
