TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia District Committee of Assam Cha Jonogusthee Jatiya Mahasabha (ACJJM) has demanded to declare Kamam Puja as paid government holiday.

The Karam God is worshiped by the tea tribe communities on Sukla ekadashi of Bhada month (August-September). As uncertainty prevails over the celebration due to the pandemic, the ACJJM in a press release called upon all tea tribe organizations and celebration committees to hoist Karam flag and to pay obeisance to Karam God by offering pan-tamul in their respective localities.

Severely lambasting the tea tribe community leaders, including ministers and legislators, for not playing any significant role to declare Karam Puja as government holiday, the ACJJM criticized the government for its discriminatory attitude as holiday was being declared for many other communities of Assam while tea tribes were only being used as vote bank.
