DIBRUGARH: The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) on Monday announced to launch one hour protest on August 11 in every tea estate across the State against their various demands.

Addressing a press conference here, ACMS president Paban Singh Ghatowar said, “On August 11, we will launch our protest programme in every tea estate across the State to press for our demands. We have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister regarding our long pending demands.”

“We demand to increase the minimum wages of tea garden workers upto Rs 351 and the wages for the small tea garden workers should be Rs 232, which was already notified but still they are not getting due to failure of Social Welfare department of Assam,” Ghatowar stated.

Ghatowar further added, “In 60 % of the tea gardens hospitals, there are no doctors. Their is a huge scarcity of doctors and medical staff in the garden hospitals. The tea garden hospitals are also in a pathetic condition. We demand to repair the hospitals and recruit nurses, medical staff and doctors in the garden hospitals.”

“A total of 112 Adivasi communities are residing in Assam for a long time but still they have not got the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. We urged the government to bring them under the purview of ST. In other states, they enjoy the ST status,” former Union minister asserted.

He said, “We demand to provide land pattas to the Adivasi people of Assam. The State government should take necessary steps to provide land pattas to the landless people.”
