Assam Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur takes stock of ongoing works at Charaideo Maidam

Assam Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur on Monday directed all concerned officials of ASI, Directorate of Archaeology, Assam and Charaideo district administration to complete necessary preparations on a war footing at Charaideo Maidam site before the visit of the expert team from the UNESCO to the site during early part of October this year.

GAURISAGAR: Assam Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur on Monday directed all concerned officials of Archaeological Survey of India ASI), Directorate of Archaeology, Assam and Charaideo district administration to complete necessary preparations on a war footing at Charaideo Maidam site before the visit of the expert team from the UNESCO to the site during early part of October this year.

Even as the Assam government is striving for the ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’ tag for the historic Charaideo Maidam from Ahom Era, the Chief Secretary undertook a two-day stock-taking visit to Charaideo district since Sunday to oversee the preparations that are being made before the visit of the UNESCO experts. The Chief Secretary on Tuesday visited Charaideo Maidam site to inspect the structural conservation works, protection measures, excavation requirements, infrastructural development and landscaping works at the site. He also visited the museum located within the archaeological site premises and had a close look at the antiquities that are being preserved and exhibited therein.
