Assam: Children’s Science Congress concludes

HAFLONG: Two projects from Dima Hasao are among the list of 26 selected child scientists from across Assam who will further participate at the National Level Children’s Science Congress to be held next in Gujarat. Their names are Awshmita Purkayastha from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (NEEPCO), Umrangso and Drishti Thaosen from Dibarai High School, Haflong.

Awshmita presented an innovative project on extraction of banana fibre for daily activities and its comparative study with commercial fibre, while Drishti submitted her project on portable clay sanitary napkin incinerator. Bijit Langthasa, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Executive Member i/c Higher Education was the chief guest of the valedictory session held at District Library Auditorium, Haflong. He delivered his speech and encouraged the children comprising of various age group present during the programme.

Thanking the organisers for choosing Haflong as their venue for the 31st State Level Science Congess, he informed that council as per the advice of the Chief Executive Member is happy to hold such kind of programme and the council will cooperate for successful event in future too.

Speaking during the occasion as a special guest Kimnei Changsan, ACS, Additional Secretary to the Government of Assam, Science Technology and Climate Change Department expressed in enthusiasm about the well-designed three days event in the Hills district of Dima Hasao. Introducing herself to be born and brought up in Haflong, she said that the excitement has doubled. She also engaged the entire audience present to sing along with her the famous song of ‘we shall over come’ which everyone enjoyed.Director of Assam State Technology & Environment Council, Dr. Jaideep Baruah delivered a review about the event and congratulated the selected students, while Chairman of the State Academic Committee, NCSC 2023 Bipul Kumar Borah delivered report on behalf of State Academic Committee.
