Assam: CID To Re-Evaluate Candidature Of Applicants

The department had earlier informed that the computer certificates of many candidates, who had cleared the examinations, turned out to be fake.

Guwahati: The crime investigation department (CID) of Assam Police on May 17 announced that it will re-evaluate the candidature of applicants who have submitted false information during their recruitment process.

The CID said that it will look into as many as 414 candidates, who had allegedly given wrong information during the recruitment process and all the cases will be investigated thoroughly.

As per reports, a case numbered 5/2022 has also been registered with the CID.

The department had earlier informed that the computer certificates of many candidates, who had cleared the examinations, turned out to be false.

Notably, the candidates had urged the High Court to intervene in the matter after which, the court directed the CID to re-verify the credentials of those candidates.

The candidates will now have to submit their qualification certificates so that the department can re-verify it.

Earlier, the Special Court, Guwahati on May 13 framed charges against 27 accused persons in the case pertaining to leakage of question papers of the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination in 2020 and discharged 14 other accused persons.

While framing charges against the accused persons, including former IPS officer PK Dutta, APS officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna, Saroj Sarma, Rubul Hazarika, Dibon Deka and Hirak Jyoti Baruah, the Special Court judge observed: "After perusal of the material collected by the investigation officer, I am of the opinion that there are grounds for presuming that accused have committed offence… accordingly, formal charges under various sections against above-mentioned accused persons are framed."

Regarding the 14 other accused persons, the judge said: "I am of the considered view that there is not sufficient ground for proceeding against them and hence the accused persons are discharged."
