GUWAHATI: In a bid to improve the medical facilities in the state, the state government had commissioned several new projects in the sector. As a part of the same initiative, the state government has officially announced the beginning of classes for the new session from today in three of the new colleges.
Along with the rest of the medical colleges of the state, classes have begun in the Nagaon, Kokrajhar and Nalbari Medical colleges from Friday. Each of these With these new medical colleges, a total number of 1,500 new students have been inducted into the total of 12 medical colleges in the state.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital as part of the event to mark its opening for classes. This facility has a total of 10 modular operation theatres and 8 modular teaching laboratories. It will also be equipped with a 24-hour emergency department and 50 ICU beds. This medical college will have a total of 504 beds and 22 total departments.
Similarly, Health and Family Welfare Minister Kesab Mahanta flagged off the classes at the Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital. This facility has 9 modular operation theatres and 8 modular teaching laboratories. It has a total of 500 beds including 60 ICU beds. A total of 21 departments will be functional in this medical college.
The minister of Public Health Engineering, Jayanta Mallabaruah was present for the opening of classes in the Nalbari Medical College and Hospital. He is also the local MLA from Nalbari. This medical facility will have a total of 576 beds including 43 ICU beds. It will have 4 modular operation theatres along with 8 modular teaching laboratories and a total of 20 departments.
All three new medical colleges have the capacity of 100 new medical students per year and is equipped with a blood bank each.
