Assam CM Allows Half-Day Holiday To Govt Employees To Watch 'The Kashmir Files'

The CM after watching the movie with ministers said that state government employees can avail a half-holiday to watch the film by informing their seniors

GUWAHATI: The film 'The Kashmir Files' since its release on 11 March has become the topic of discussion among the masses including politicians for showing the migration of Kashmiri Hindus during the 1990s.

The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday 15 March announced that all state government employees who wish to watch the film 'The Kashmir Films' can avail themselves of a half-holiday.

The employees can take leave from their work and go to watch the movie in cinema halls as allowed by the chief minister during his speech on Tuesday.

The film by Vivek Agnihotri has succeeded in touching the hearts of viewers by depicting the plight of the Kashmiri Pandit community at the time of the 1990 Kashmir insurgency.

The announcement by the CM comes after he and other cabinet ministers went to a cinema hall in Guwahati to watch 'The Kashmir Films' on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm slot timing.

All the cabinet ministers along with the chief minister watched the film at PVR hall at City Centre of Guwahati after the CM Sarma completed his speech on the 2nd day of the Budget session. The ruling party ministers and MLAs accompanied the CM.

Sarma after watching the film praises the makers and the entire cast for showing a closure picture of truth during the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus.

The CM then announced a half-holiday for state government employees while applauding the film. He said that all government employees can apply for this break from their work to watch 'The Kashmir Files.'

To avail the holiday the employees can just inform their senior officer and submit the movie tickets on the next day of their duty as informed by the CM.

On speaking about the truth of the movie 'The Kashmir Films' Sarma said that the act of terrorism was horrific and people should not take it from religious perspectives as a terrorist can be from any religion.

It may be mentioned that at least 6 BJP-ruled states across the country have made the film tax-free to watch in theatres.

The film has emerged to be a great success in getting positive responses and also earned a profit in the box office with Rupees 60.20 crore on the 5th day of its release.
