GUWAHATI: In a recent development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed plans to close down the financially struggling state-run entities, Artfed and Assam Government Marketing Corporation Limited (AGMC). The decision, announced during an event at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Headquarters, aims to curtail the substantial losses incurred by these establishments.
During his address, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that the two entities had been grappling with considerable financial setbacks for an extended period of time. Consequently, a strategic decision was made to discontinue the operations of Artfed and AGMC. The employees associated with these entities will be accorded dignified exits from their positions.
Chief Minister Sarma's move to shut down Artfed and AGMC reflects the government's commitment to fiscal responsibility and efficient resource allocation. The decision comes as a response to the long-standing issue of sustained losses that these establishments have been facing.
He said, “The establishments that has been suffering huge losses for a significant amount of time will be shut down and the employees working for these establishments will be relieved from their jobs with honour. We have decided to close down Artfed and AGMC following huge losses suffered by these establishments.”
CM Sarma said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has built roads so Rahul Gandhi will be able to walk properly as walking is good for health, however, this will not have any effect on politics but the roads will have to bear some burden.”
On a different note, Chief Minister Sarma also commented on the recent Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi. He humorously remarked that the road infrastructure built by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would aid Rahul Gandhi's walking endeavors, contributing to his health. However, he quipped that the real impact would likely be felt by the roads themselves as they bear the weight of the increased foot traffic.
