Assam CM announces Rs. 50 lakh ex gratia for cops who died fighting COVID-19

Nationwide, as many as 700 police/CAPF personnel lost their lives while battling the dreaded coronavirus disease

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has announced an ex gratia of Rs. 50 lakh to the 23 police personnel in the state who have succumbed to the notorious COVID-19 disease, Additional Director General of Police Harmeet Singh informed via Twitter on Monday (October 5).

"We bow our heads in salutation to those brave Police/CAPF #CoronaWarriors who have made the Supreme Sacrifice in the fight against #COVID19. Hon' CM Assam, Sh. @sarbanandsonwal has kindly declared ex-gratia of Rs.50,00,000/- (each) for all @assampolice personnel who passed away," ADGP Harmeet Singh wrote in a tweet.

Nationwide, as many as 700 police/CAPF personnel lost their lives while battling the dreaded coronavirus disease. On the other hand, 1,30,299 personnel have tested positive for the disease.

"It is painful to note that 700 Police / CAPF personnel have laid down their lives so far, shielding the nation against Covid-19. A grateful nation stands with their families. As of today, 1,30,399 personnel have been infected, while working in the frontlines of this battle," the Indian Police foundation wrote in a tweet, posting about the tragic development. 

It needs mention here that India has logged 66,23,815 coronavirus cases so far with 74,442 new infections. 903 deaths in the last 24 hours have pushed the total death count to 1,02,685. 76,737 patients have recovered from the infection in the country in the last 24 hours. With 55,86,703 people in the country having recovered since the beginning of the pandemic, the overall recovery rate is 84.3 percent.
