Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the Assam Police on April 25 to soften their stance and evaluate the case where around 36 youths were apprehended while staging a protest in front of police headquarters recently.

He urged the Assam police to be sympathetic in their assessment of the case and told them to approach the case from a humanitarian perspective. He also asked the police to refrain from detaining them for a long time and directed them to undertake steps for their early release.

Earlier this month, the youths were apprehended after they orchestrated a demonstration demanding an immediate announcement of the results of the constable recruitment examination.

The reason behind their resentment apparently happened to be a new advertisement which was published for recruitment to the police.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Director General of Police (DGP) has issued a clarification where he said that the advertisement was published for fresh recruitment, but that is for filling up many additional posts that have been created in the meantime. The DGP informed that the results of the recruitment examination are under process.

Earlier, the guardians of the detainees pleaded to the authorities to release their child and the request was made last week soon after their detention.

Speaking to the media, a guardian said, "What wrong did my child do? He should be released immediately and failure to do so would result in his future getting jeopardized."

Meanwhile, The Assam Police SI exam question paper reportedly went viral on April 24 after a few images of it surfaced on WhatsApp.

The Assam Police SI exam was scheduled to be conducted on April 24, 2022, and the exam timings were from 10 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 4 PM.
