Guwahati: On Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma campaigned at Mariani on behalf of Rupjyoti Kurmi and promised Rs. 40 crore investment in the Mariani Tea Garden line.
For their valuable votes for Rupjyoti Kurmi in the coming election on 30th October 2021, the Chief Minister also pledged door-to-door water at the Mariani Tea Garden line.
He announced the opening of 10 new schools, ranging from classes VI to XII.
Rupjyoti Kurmi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in India. He belonged to the Indian National Congress. Kurmi is Upper Assam's most powerful tea-tribe chief. He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Mariani in May 2021. (constituency).
In the 2021 Assam Assembly election, he beat Ramani Tanti of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 2,446 votes. Being a four-time Legislator, he resigned from the Indian National Congress in June 2021 over a disagreement over the elevation of a youngster in the party.
According to Kurmi, younger leaders like him were marginalised in the Congress, and the party's central leadership was to blame for the party's recurrent election defeats around the country. In the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kurmi is the son of a former Congress minister and three-time MLA Rupam Kurmi.
