GUWAHATI: On Wednesday 1 December, Assam Chief Minister Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma launched construction of the road from Gorukhuti Kalita Para (Rajapukhuri) to Goshala under Darrang district of Assam.
The road will be built with a budget of 1.65 crores under the Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART).
CM Sarma said that after the completion of the construction of the road it will provide important linkage to farmers to sell their local produces in the nearby markets as the distance from Gorukhuti Kalita Para to Goshala is 50-60 km.
The Assam Chief Minister also launched several other development projects in Gorukhuti of Assam including- laying the foundation stone of a weaving Training centre at the Nalijhar area of Gorukhuti by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The minister interacted with the women weavers at the makeshift weaving centre.
CM Sarma also laid the foundation stone for Agriculture Development Office (ADO) in Gorukhuti and planted a sapling as a part of an afforestation drive in the region.
Assam government aims to make the Gorukhuti project commercially viable and therefore during the visit on Wednesday CM Sarma distributed farming equipment and goods carrying vehicles to the farmers of the area.
During his visit to Gorukhuti the chief minister also visit the Goshala located in the region where several imported high-yielding breeds of cattle are being reared as part of a mission by the Assam government.
CM said that the Assam government is committed to making Gorukhuti one of the prime dairy farming centres in North East India as part of its development work.
