Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal asks department to introduce time specific schemes for Baghjan

The CM held a review meeting to review and take stock of the situation and to know the pace of implementation of rehab projects in Baghjan area.

Baghjan: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal conducted a review meeting to take stock of the pace of implementation of rehabilitation projects in the Baghjan area. He also asked the implementing departments to execute time-specific projects to ensure the well-being and welfare of the people.

The review was of the decisions taken during the CM's visit to Baghjan on June 14 when the CM visited Baghjan along with Union Minister of Petroleun and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan.

The Baghjan blowout occurred on May 27, when the gas-producing well suddenly became active during workover operations in well under Baghjan oil field. the disaster caused much harm to the livelihood of the people living nearby. CM Sarbananda Sonowal had announced many projects and schemes for the socio-economic development of the people as a relief the masses.

The announcements of schemes/projects by CM in the Baghjan area are as under:

  • He announced the updation of Baghjan Dighal Tarrang High School to a Higher Secondary School. On being enquired about the progress, the Principal Secretary Education Department B Kalyan Chakravarthy stated that from the new academic year the school will start to function as a higher secondary school.
  • The CM also announced renovation of five schools around Baghjan area. The principal Secretary stated that the progress is going on in this front too.
  • The CM proposed the setting up of a 30-bedded model hospital with residential quarters in Baghjan. Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare Samir Sinha stated that the DPR is prepared and the foundation stone would be laid shortly.
  • Construction of Veterinary Dispensary at DingtalTarang in Tinsukia is proposed, which will start very soon.
  • The CM also announced the setting up of Skill Development Centre. On enquired about it, the Commissioner and Secretary Industry and Commerce Department Dr K. K. Dwivedi stated that he is connecting with the concerned functionary for establishing the Skill Development Centre. He also added that efforts are underway for creating employment and entrepreneurship among the youths of Baghjan.
  • A project is also initiated under the Community Investment Fund and Vulnerability Reduction Fund to help the self-help groups under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission.
  • The CM also announced piped water supply scheme with functional household tap connections to bring pure drinking water to Baghjan.
  • In terms of boosting tourism, SM Sonowal reviewed the implementation of MaguriMotapungbeel as a tourist hotspot and asked the District Administration Tinsukia and Assam Tourism Development Corporation to implement the project proactively.

In addition to reviewing the progress of these schemes, CM Sarbananda Sonowal also reviewed the Baghjan Rehabilitation through handloom weaving and asked the Handloom and Textile Department to implement the projects. He also overviewed the progress of NH-37 to Baghjan gaon. Sonowal also asked Water Resources Department to implement anti-erosion measures proactively as a permanent solution to flood and erosion issues in Baghjan.
