Assam CM Sonowal thanks Akshay Kumar for Rs 1 crore donation to fight floods

Bollywood's original Khiladi Akshay Kumar has pledged a sum of Rs. 1 crore each to the states of Assam and Bihar currently reeling under floods

Guwahati: Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister of Assam, on Tuesday thanked actor Akshay Kumar for his contribution of Rs 1 crore towards the state's flood relief.

Sonowal took to Twitter to thank the 'Khiladi' for showing "sympathy and support" to the people of the state during the period of crisis.

"Thank you @akshaykumar ji for your kind contribution of Rs 1 crore towards Assam flood relief. You have always shown sympathy and support during periods of crisis," Sonowal wrote in his tweet thanking the superstar.

"As a true friend of Assam, may God shower all blessings to you to carry your glory in the global arena," Sonowal's tweet further said.

It needs mention here have been wreaking havoc in the northern-eastern state of Assam for the past two months due to incessant rains.

Although the situation in the state has witnessed significant improvement, as many as 11,962 people are still affected in several districts — Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Baksa — in Assam due to the flood, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Monday.

As per reports, Akshay Kumar spoke to CMs of Bihar and Assam last Thursday and pledged a sum of rupees one crore each at a time when these areas are affected by the natural calamity.

This is not the only time that Kumar has come to the aid of the needy. Earlier this year in March at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, he pledged Rs 25 crore to the PM CARES Fund to help the nation deal with the crisis situation.

Akshay Kumar has also come forward to help the victims of natural calamities in the country. In July of 2019, he donated Rs one crore each to the CM Relief Fund and for Kaziranga Park rescue. Later in October, he pledged Rs one crore to rehabilitate 25 families suffering due to the floods in Bihar.
