Guwahati: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has instructed the state's education department to provide smartphones to students of economically weaker sections for attending online classes.
To ensure that no children are left behind in education in the COVID pandemic situation, smartphones are to be provided for the students of economically backward classes.
On Tuesday, CM Sonowal held a meeting with the health and education officials at Janata Bhawan on the reopening of schools which has been closed since the month of March.
While attending a meeting with officials of the department, Sonowal directed the officials of the education department to take safety measures while reopening the schools in the state.
In the meeting, CM also urged the education department to substantially use audio-visual tools, storytelling and such innovative methods in the beginning month to get the students back to the mould of formal education.
"Among many negatives, the pandemic has brought some positives as well and making the people aware about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene was one of them and education department must take this opportunity to spread the message of cleanliness in the society through the students," CM Sonowal stated.
The department has been asked to provide iron and folic acid tablets to students for boosting their immunity along with giving yoga classes and holding regular health screenings for the students.
Later, Sonowal also directed for holding a meeting of Vice Chancellors to prepare proper guidelines for starting the classes in all universities soon.
