MANGALDAI: Kati Bihu- the pre-harvesting festival of Assam has been celebrated by the people of the Darrang district on Wednesday along with the rest of the State.
District Agriculture department celebrated the festival with community participation separately at villages Ramhari, Ramgaon and Botabari under three Agriculture subdivisions, namely Mangaldai, Pothorughat and Dalgaon respectively. The day-long celebration featured felicitation of progressive farmers of the locality, awareness of farmers’ welfare schemes, distribution of farm kits, seeds and cultural programmes, and illuminating the earthen lamps and sky lanterns (Akash Bonti ) in the nearby paddy fields.
Mangaldai Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, taking part in the celebration at Ramhari as the chief guest, ceremonially lit the sky lantern at Ramhari field and offered a prayer for a successful harvest, in presence former legislator Gurujyoti Das, Agriculture Officials Dibakar Deka, Sasanka Goswami and Hemen Lahkar.
Similarly, District Commissioner of Darrang, Munindra Nath Ngatey, District Agriculture Officer (officiating) Jitendra Saharia and others attended the Kati Bihu celebration at Ramgaon while Dalgaon legislator Majibur Rahman, Assistant Agriculture Director Dr Manoranjan Sarrma were present at Botabari Kati Bihu celebration under Dalgaon Agri Subdivision.
