Assam: Congress' Srinivas BV Arrives in Guwahati, to Appear Before Guwahati Police in Angkita Dutta Harassment Case

GUWAHATI: The Indian Youth Congress president, Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata (Srinivas BV) arrived in Guwahati to appear before Guwahati Police in Angkita Dutta Harassment Case. Meanwhile, ahead of his visit Guwahati Police has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure prohibiting the gathering of more than five people in the city.

Meanwhile, in April, the former president of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (AIYC), Angkita Dutta, filed a complaint at the Dispur Police headquarters accusing the leader of the Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas BV, of harassing Angkita physically and making sexist remarks.

On the other hand, Dutta also spoke of a meeting she had with Srinivas BV on March 25 at a hotel in Chhattisgarh, where he heckled her while gripping her arm, pulled and pushed her, and threatened to ruin her life in the Congress party using slang language.

She added that although she had told the party's top officials, no action had been taken to punish Srinivas.

Taking on twitter Angkita wrote, “@IYC President @srinivasiyc has continually harnessed me and was discriminating on the basis of my gender. My values and education don’t allow me anymore. The leadership has played deaf ears despite bring front of them MANY TIMES

In relation to the FIR filed in Assam's Dispur Police Station over a sexual harassment complaint made by former Assam Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta, the Supreme Court of India on 17th May granted interim anticipatory bail to Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata, the national president of the Indian Youth Congress.

The alleged assault is said to have occurred in Raipur between February 24 and February 26, 2023, according to a bench made up of Justices BR Gavai and Sanjay Karol, and the complaint was filed in Assam in April of the same year. The judge further observed that prior to filing the complaint, the complainant's tweets and media appearances contained no reference to sexual harassment against the petitioner.
