Guwahati: Topon Kumar Gogoi, the COVID-19 infected Lok Sabha MP who represents Jorhat Constituency in Upper Assam has been administered plasma due to his ailing health, a Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) source told media.
Reportedly, the oxygen level of the MP, who was also a former Power Minister of Assam, dropped, and he was also given 2 litres of oxygen. The GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sarma, talking to The Sentinel Digital, said that the BJP leader is now "doing fine."
Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, Topon Kumar Gogoi had notified that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus and urged everyone who had come in contact with him to get tested for the contagious disease.
Similarly, former Assam chief minister and Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi was administered plasma after his health deteriorated, officials said on Tuesday. The 85-year-old Congress leader is currently at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the authorities at the GMCH have said that the former Chief Minister is now recovering from the coronavirus disease and he has reportedly returned to a "stable" state.
GMCH authorities are looking to release him within the next 3-4 days are there has been a marked improvement in his health, said sources.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positivity rate in Assam has zoomed to 7.44%, while the number of cumulative cases in the state stands at 1,15,279. Out of these cases, 28,061 are still 'active.' So far, 323 persons in Assam have succumbed to the infections caused by the pathogen. While a maximum of 924 cases was detected in Kamrup (M) on Wednesday, followed by 236 in Nagaon, 213 in Dibrugarh and 200 in Baksa districts.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, taking to Twitter on Wednesday, wrote, "Alert ~ 3555 #COVID cases detected today out of 47744 tests done in last 24 hours. Positivity Rate- 7.44%. Kamrup M- 924; Nagaon- 236; Dibrugarh- 213; Baksa- 200."
