BISWANATH: A protest by the members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) turned into a major incident as the protesters clashed with the local police. The incident took place in Biswanath on Wednesday.

The members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had staged a protest in Biswanath on Wednesday in connection to the ongoing war between Palestine and Israel. The protesters were demanding that the Israeli state should immediately stop the military action on the civilians of Palestine. Biswanath Police stepped in to stop the protest, leading to a clash between the members of the party and the police forces. The police were forced to take several of the protesters into their custody in order to bring the situation under control.

It can be noted that expressing solidarity with the victims on the Palestinian side of this war, the members of the party were demanding that the Israeli forces allow the free movement of humanitarian supplies and personnel into the affected area. They also pointed out the shortage of essential resources in the region because of this war and organised a solidarity day with the victims.

Along with the rest of the units under the Assam State Unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Biswanath Unit answered the calls of the state committee to organise solidarity with Palestine day to create public opinion against the ongoing violence. The protesters had gathered near the Clock Tower in Biswanath to stage the protest when the Biswanath Police arrived at the location to stop them.

This triggered a clash between the police personnel including the officials present at the location and the protesting members of the political party led to the senior officials taking several protesting members into their custody.
