Assam Cricket Association Bans NFR U-19 Team, Captain And Coach For Alleged Match-Fixing

The team of NFR U-19 was involved in match-fixing with Jorhat U-19 in the JK Baruah Inter district tournament held in Assam's Golaghat district on 16 February.

GUWAHATI: On a dark day of Assam Cricket on 16 February 2022, the NFR (North Frontier Railway) team had intentionally underperformed to knock-out team Silchar from the JK Baruah Inter district match held in Assam's Golaghat district.

Several investigations were conducted over the matter by a committed after receiving allegations regarding match-fixing in the JK Brauah tournament between the under-19 Railway team and the Jorhat team.

In taking action against the alleged match-fixing the ACA has announced its decision today by putting bans on the cricket career of all the people related to the illegal sports activity.

On Thursday 24 February the ACA (Assam Cricket Association) has banned the NFR under-19 cricket team and its captain Ronit Akhtar from any cricket activities under the association for 3 years.

Moreover, the ACA also banned the manager cum coach of the North Frontier Railway team named Satyabrata Chakraborty. He is banned for the entire lifetime from any activities related to cricket under the state cricket association.

The secretary of ACA, Devajit Saikia while addressing the media said that the decision of exemplary action against NFR u-19 has been taken by the association after an interrogation with concerned officials and other related members because the team, its coach and captain have dishonored the spirit of the game and brought shame to the entire cricket association.

He further stated that it is very unfortunate though ACA is not happy to announce bans on cricketers but such actions are needed to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

The match-fixing on 16 February has brought massive controversy as it was clear to see that team Jorhat has almost lost the game but emerged to be the winner.

The game was ended with the Jorhat team being practically impossible to win but the match was resumed after the skipper had a discussion with umpires and Jorhat topped the table.

Following the conspiracy, the Silchar under-19 team which was at the tabletop filed a complaint with ACA and alleged the NFR-Jorhat match was a fixed one.
