GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Wednesday that the Northeastern state is experiencing a declining trend in crimes like murder, rape, and dacoity.

Sarma stated, "Our commitment to make Assam a crime-free state is moving positively in the right direction."

He also shared an update on the decreasing trend of major crimes recorded in the state, highlighting that these crimes have seen a decline due to proactive government measures.

The Assam CM credited this decrease to initiatives like active police patrolling, enhanced efficiency in crime management, the utilization of forensic methods, improved coordination between the people and the police, and the unwavering support from the Government of Assam.

Meanwhile, the largest city of Northeast India, Guwahati has been developing by leaps and bounds in terms of both population and infrastructure as it takes strides towards becoming a smart city. Working in the same direction, the chief minister’s office has announced several new projects in the capital city.

The announcement came over social media from the official handle of the CMO. The first and most important is the opening of the new bridge over the Brahmaputra River. It was mentioned that the new 6-lane bridge will be completed by Diwali next year, which is just about a year away from now. This new bridge will connect the Bhutnath and Fancy Bazar localities of the city with North Guwahati. Thus reducing the load on the existing Saraighat Bridges. Also, the 6-lane structure will enable the parallel movement of multiple vehicles.

As a part of the expansion of the airport and to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles to and from the airport, a new 6-lane road will be constructed connecting Dharapur Chariali to the airport. An on-air rotary will also be constructed to ensure the smooth movement of the vehicles in the region.
