JORHAT: On Sunday, a bloodied dead body was found in the JB road area in Assam's Jorhat town.

The deceased is identified as one Ratnadip Baruah alias Babu.

The dead body was recovered from a footpath near JB Road with several head injuries.

Locals said that Baruah was well-known in the area.

Baruah was found in goop of blood on the footpath with several head injuries.

The people who came for shopping for their daily wares as it was Sunday spotted the dead body in the upside-down position and immediately informed the police.

Police arrived at the scene and immediately launched an investigation into the case.

Though upon preliminary examination the whole case seems like a case of cold-blooded murder, nothing can be said right now.

The police have also asked the shops nearby that have CCTVs installed in their shops to send them the footage of the preceding night to get concrete information about the case.

The police have sent the dead body to the nearest hospital for post-mortem and other post-death formalities.

In a similar incident last year, Jorhat witnessed the brutal murder of an AASU leader Animesh Bhuyan when 50 odd people attacked him and eventually killed the AASU leader.

Assam is witnessing a spike in murder cases as it recorded 1192 murders in 2021, the previous year in 2020 it recorded 1131 murders.

"Cases of murder have witnessed increases, while all other types of crimes have declined in the year 2021 from January-July period", said a top police official of Assam Police in a statement.

Assam is increasingly becoming crime-prone with more than 3 murders reported every day in the state.

According to a source, the cities in Assam witness more murder cases than the village areas.

According to police sources, the state is also witnessing a rising trend in the incidents of murder of women.

Personal vendetta and property disputes were found to be the main causes of murder in the state by the police.
