Assam: Death of Naresh Biswas condoled

MORIGAON: Naresh Biswas, a prominent sculptor and artist pensioner of the Government of Assam, passed away on Wednesday morning. In a condolence message, District Commissioner Devashish Sharma said Biswas, who was soft-spoken and very popular among all, had made an outstanding contribution to the field of art and sculpture. His death is an irreparable loss not only to Morigaon district but to the entire field of art and sculpture in Assam. The District Commissioner visited the cemetery on Friday and paid his last respects to the late Biswas. He extended his condolences to the bereaved family members. Naresh Biswas, who passed away at his residence in Malpota on Friday at the age of 74, studied architecture at Shanti Niketan in Calcutta and gained widespread popularity with his works in various parts of Assam. Biswas, who received the Artist Pension from the Government of Assam last year, has worked on the main arch of Guwahati University, Manasa Temple in Palashbari, Vishnu Temple in Dharamtul, Gita Satra Arch in Morigaon, Main Arch of Barwari Ras Temple. Biswas, who built the main arch of the University of Guwahati and was widely acclaimed, is scattered across the state.
