GOLAGHAT: The All Golaghat District Students’ Union strongly opposed to the decision to close the Assamese-medium schools in the state, which have less than 30 students. The student body took out a protest rally in Golaghat town, protesting against the government decision to close down the huge number of Assamese medium government schools on Monday. The protesters shouted various slogans against the government and demanded the withdrawal of the school closure decision.

In this regard, the president and secretary of the All Golaghat District Students’ Union, Gitartha Saikia and Biswajit Gogoi, respectively, said that instead of developing the infrastructure of the schools, the government had taken the decision to close down the schools that have less than 30 students. They criticized the government as well as the education department. Further, they said that the government wanted to demolish the government schools by taking such a crucial decision. The student body demanded an immediate withdrawal of the decision and to take initiative for the infrastructure development of the schools. More than 300 students took part in the protest.
