GUWAHATI: Amidst the worrisome escalation of Dengue-positive cases in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, the state's health department has taken a stern stance. In an effort to curb the spread of the disease, officials have issued a directive urging citizens to adhere to preventative measures, and non-compliance could result in financial penalties.

Speaking at a press conference in Diphu, Dr. Borsing Rongpi, the Joint Director of Health Services, conveyed the urgency of the situation. The district has seen a staggering surge in Dengue cases, with a reported 2,041 positive cases as of the end of July. This escalating figure poses a grave threat to the local population's well-being.

The escalating Dengue-positive cases prompted action from the health services department. Acting on the recommendation of the Diphu Municipality, authorities mandated that the residents of Karbi Anglong district strictly follow precautionary measures. Failing to do so carries the risk of financial penalties, ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 5,000. The intention behind this penalty imposition is to motivate individuals to take responsibility for their own health and contribute to the collective effort of disease prevention.

The broader context for this urgency is the Dengue situation in Assam as a whole. Between January 1 and August 18, a concerning 3,337 Dengue-positive cases have been documented across the state. Tragically, this outbreak has also claimed the lives of three patients.

The most recent data, specifically from August 18, underscores the gravity of the situation. On that day alone, 37 cases of Dengue-positive individuals were reported. Alarmingly, 32 of these cases originated from the Karbi Anglong district, indicating the urgent need for targeted intervention in this area.

The rise in Dengue-positive cases presents a multifaceted challenge. It not only strains the healthcare system but also disrupts the daily lives of those affected and their families. The penalties introduced by the Assam health department underscore the seriousness of the situation and aim to compel citizens to prioritize disease prevention.

In conclusion, the surge in Dengue cases within Assam's Karbi Anglong district has prompted decisive action from the health department. With penalties in place for non-compliance with precautionary measures, it is hoped that individuals will take their role in disease prevention seriously. Urgent attention is required to arrest the spread of this debilitating disease and protect the health and well-being of the community.
