Assam: Deputy Inspector Of Schools Apprehended On Bribery Charges

GUWAHATI: The Deputy Inspector of Schools of Kamrup Metro was arrested for taking a bribe by the authorities of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Unit, Assam.

The arrested government official has been identified as Buddha Kataky.

He was detained on Saturday while taking a bribe from an individual in exchange for relief in the audit of the school's development fund acoounts.

Kataky was detained in the deputy inspector of schools' office in Guwahati's Rihabari.

IPS Surendra Kumar spoke about the incident on Twitter and said: “Today, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed and arrested Sh Buddha Kataky, Dy. Inspector of Schools, Guwahati, Kamrup(M) while accepting demanded bribe from the complainant for giving him relief in Audit of the Development Fund of the School.”

On Friday, three government personnel were detained in Assam on suspicion of taking bribes in three different incidents.

Sources claim that the employees sought payment in order to process the three complainants' documents after they approached the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

In the first instance, Pranjal Bora, a "lat mandal" of Nagaon's Koliabar revenue circle, was detained while taking a bribe from the complainant in exchange for processing and obtaining a land sale permit, according to Additional DGP for Vigilance Surendra Kumar.

In the second incident, Bidyadhar Das, a senior assistant from the Cooperative Society's office, was detained in Guwahati's Khanapara for allegedly taking payment for completing a pension file.

Similarly, in another incident, Bajlul Basit Sarkar, a block elementary education officer of Matia block in Goalpara district, was detained while collecting a bribe to sign bank loan documents, according to officials.
