LAKHIMPUR: A crucial meeting of the Dhemaji District Sports Association (DDSA) was held on Monday at its office located in Dhemaji town. The meeting was presided over by DDSA president-cum-Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu while general secretary Jatin Borgohain explained the objective of the programme. Borgohain informed that almost 150 members, representing the regional units of the DDSA and athletic clubs of the district from Gogamukh to Jonai attended the meeting. From the chair, Dr. Ranoj Pegu said that the Dhemaji District Sports Association, as an esteemed sports association, has long been instrumental in uncovering and nurturing the hidden sports talents of Dhemaji and boosting the capabilities of the athletes.
In the meeting, a detailed discussion-cum-assessment was held on various ongoing sports projects in the district. The meeting also evaluated the progress of the current Khel Maharan initiative in the district. Dr. Pegu encouraged the officials to exert all efforts in ensuring that the Dhemaji segment of this initiative could mark its culmination with a resounding success. On the other hand, resolution was taken to work for comprehensive enhancement of the sport sector, including the infrastructure, in the district, to use the Dhemaji Stadium field as a practice ground, to resolve the logging water problem of the stadium field by building an effective drainage system etc. The representative of the regional units of the DDSA and athletic clubs submitted application to Dr. Pegu for redressal of various sports related issues of their respective area.
