DIBRUGARH: Keeping rising water level of Brahmaputra in view, the east revenue circle officer and Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) authority by their respective order issued a circular and ordered for complete ban on Paltan Bazar Ghat, Mohana Ghat and Kachari Ghat for upcoming Chhath Puja. Dibrugarh district administration prohibited youths on or below 18 years of age to visit the banks of Brahmaputra during Chhath Puja celebration.
On the other hand, in view of the public safety, permission has been given only for the devotees of Chhath Puja for the worship of Panchali ghat, Tinkonia ghat, Poolbagan (Kalia ghat) and Maijan ghat.
Recently, two brothers were washed away in Brahmaputra river in Mohanaghat area while offering pind dan to their departed mother.
Due to the rising level of river Brahmaputra, the district administration has taken the precautionary measures for the safety of the people.
On the other hand, preparations has been going on in full swing in the ghats where permission has been given by the district administration.
“Earlier, Chhath Puja was organised in 15 ghats of Dibrugarh but this year only a few ghats has been given permission to organize the puja. Some people will organize Chhath Puja in their homes where they have organized artificial pond,” said a local resident.
