Assam: Diphu police nabbed two top leaders of ultra outfit

HOWRAGHAT: Diphu police arrested two self-styled members of a lesser known ultra outfit, United Karbi People’s Front Liberation. The arrest was made in a swift operation led by Inspector JS Khobung, Officer In charge of Diphu Police Station and personnel of Assam police battalion in Dikrenglangso locality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong on Monday.

The apprehended ultras have been identified as Harlongbi Engti, alias M Kathar, self-styled president of the outfit and Sarmon Hanse, alias Chesong Ingjai, self-styled secretary of the outfit.

Both the accused were nabbed during wee hours on Monday. Police have recovered some items from the arrested persons. The seized items include two mobile handsets, two mobile batteries; money purse; earphones; cable wires; burnt metal remains of keypad phone which was used for demanding money and one Pulsar motorbike bearing registration number AS09H/9884.

Police have informed that both the arrested persons have confessed during the integration that they have formed an extremist group. Police came to know about their existence, when they served an extortion letter in the letter pad of the outfit to a teacher of Ronghingchong area of Diphu on October 17.

They demanded an amount of Rs 7 lakh rupees from the teacher for buying arms for the organization. Diphu police have registered a case No. 110/2023 U/S 387 IPC against the two arrested militant outfits.
