GUWAHATI: Amidst the vibrant Diwali celebrations in Guwahati's Panjabari locality, tragedy struck on Monday night when a major fire broke out at Ganga Shanti Apartment during the bursting of firecrackers. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of a flat's contents, valued at crores of rupees.

As the flames roared, fire tenders swiftly reached the spot and worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire, preventing further damage to the surrounding area. The owner of the devastated apartment, identified as Devraj Bhagawati, took immediate action by filing a First Information Report (FIR) with the Dispur Police Station. In the FIR, Bhagawati named the builder of the apartment, Madhav Sharma, and his son Kishanu Sharma, as the responsible parties for the tragic incident.

Bhagawati alleged that the society members residing in the apartment complex had violated the directives issued by the district administration. Despite clear instructions to avoid bursting firecrackers beyond a certain time, the society members continued their celebrations well into the midnight hours. Bhagawati claims that this negligence directly led to the fire that ravaged his apartment.

In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that the apartment was unoccupied for the last five days. This absence raises questions about the timeline of events leading up to the fire and adds an element of mystery to the tragedy. Investigators will likely delve into this aspect to ascertain if any suspicious circumstances contributed to the incident.

The aftermath of the fire paints a picture of devastation, with Bhagawati losing not just his property but also cherished belongings. The estimated worth of the destroyed items runs into crores of rupees, amplifying the financial toll of the calamity. As investigations unfold, authorities will determine the extent of negligence on the part of the society members and the accountability of the builder and his son.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety guidelines, especially during festive celebrations involving fire-related activities. The allegations made by Bhagawati underscore the need for stricter enforcement of regulations to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

In the wake of this unfortunate incident, it is imperative for residents, builders, and authorities to reflect on the lessons learned and work collaboratively to implement measures that ensure the safety and well-being of communities during festive celebrations.
