Assam Doctor Booked for Allegedly Raping His Colleague in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim the police registered a case of rape under Section 376 (rape) and 328 (causing harm) of the IPC.

GUWAHATI: A doctor in Assam's Dibrugarh district was arrested for allegedly raping his colleague on Thursday.

According to reports, the 34-year-old doctor identified as Dr Nabajyoti Deka  who hails from Dibrugarh was practicing at a private hospital in Upper Assam.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim the police registered a case of rape and arrested the doctor.

Further as per the victim the incident took place on Wednesday night at their workplace, added the top cop. On the other hand the medical examination of the victim has been conducted and reports are awaited.

Dibrugarh police has charged the doctor against case no. 1221/21 and a case has been registered under Section 376 (rape) and 328 (causing harm) of the IPC at Barbari police outpost under Dibrugarh police station.

Earlier, a doctor named Dr Samsul Alam of Mandia, Barpeta district was arrested by the police of Barpeta sadar police station in coordination with Meghalaya Police for his alleged derogatory remarks against police on Facebook.

Dr Samsul Alam works in West Garo Hills district as a homeopathy doctor under Ayush Mantranalaya. He commented on a Facebook post against the police. It was noticed by the police and finally he was arrested from Meghalaya. He was produced in Barpeta court on Saturday and sent to Barpeta district jail.
