Guwahati: As the nation continues its battle the dreaded coronavirus, it has been reported that in Assam, at least 6 doctors who got infected and recovered from the virus, have once again tested positive. The COVID-19 symptoms in some of these doctors has been worse the second time around, said reports.
As per reports, at least six doctors from Dibrugarh's Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) have tested COVID-19 positive for the second time after defeating the virus once. Similar cases have also been reported from Guwahati, where a bulk of the coronavirus cases are being treated, the reports added.
Dr. HK Goswami, Principal of the AMC, told NDTV that although one such case has been reported, it is "doubtful" since it happened within the quarantine period.
Top health officials of the state, meanwhile, have said that investigation shall be conducted into these apparent COVID-19 "reinfections."
Meanwhile, doctors and health personnel seem reluctant to admit to these cases, as they are "suspected re-infections"
As per reports, some doctors have tested negative for the second time with visible COVID-19 symptoms. In one case, a doctor who had developed an alleged "reinfection" even had to be administered plasma due to the severity of his condition.
The AMCH has seen over 330 health workers, including at least 150 doctors infected in the line of duty so far, reports said.
It is pertinent to mention here that 1,600 doctors and health workers have so far tested positive for the COVID-19 in Assam.
Although these "suspected reinfections" have come to the fore, the medical fraternity has been hesitant to label them as "confirmed" cases as it is felt that a detailed medical and scientific investigation must first be conducted to ascertain whether these cases are genuine.
