GAURISAGAR: Assam Academic Centre, Jorhat, organized Dr.Kamal Chandra Borthakur memorial lecture at Ramkhapith Dewalaya, in Dikhowmukh, on the outskirts of Gaurisagar. Dr. Kamal Chandra Borthakur was the first Ph.D. awardee from Assam in the engineering curriculum.
The programme started with a borgeet performed by a group of local children. Thereafter, Dr. Bichitra Kumar Borthakur, a noted scientist and brother of Dr. Kamal Chandra Borthakur, educationist Tukheswar Borthakur, and social worker Mamoni Borthakur paid floral tribute to the portrait of Dr. Borthakur. Later, a symposium was held on the topic of environmental pollution,remedy and the necessity of cleanliness. The symposium was conducted by Dr. Panchanon Borthakur, president of the Dr.Kamal Chandra Borthakur Memorial Education Trust. Bijoy Swarnakar, former Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, graced the symposium as a resource person.
Addressing the gathering, Swarnakar stated that environmental pollution is a global problem. It has become a great threat for the upcoming generation. Earlier, Romen Gogoi, secretary, Dr. Kamal Chandra Borthakur Memorial Education Trust, explained the object and anchored the whole programme, while Jitu Dutta, secretary, Ramkhapith Dewalaya Managing mmittee, Deogharia, ,Deogharia welcomed the guests and the gathering and gave a short description of the dewalaya. In the symposium, Dr.Prodip Tamuli, Dr. Ashok Borthakur, president and secretary, respectively, of the Assam Academic Centre, Dr. Romesh Chandra Baruah, former director of the North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat, and other dignitaries were present.
