Assam: Drug peddler killed, 5 including a cop injured in police firing

RANGIYA: One drug peddler was killed, and five persons, including a police personnel, were injured when the police resorted to open fire towards three drug peddlers at Agiathuri near Amingaon in the Kamrup District on Sunday.

According to Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional SP of Kamrup, when three drug peddlers wanted to cross Agiathuri in a luxurious car, the police, led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, intercepted the car. The peddlers then fired at the police from the car, injuring constable Hima Das. The police retaliated and killed one peddler, namely Salam of Hatigaon, Guwahati, and injured two other peddlers, Hiranya Thakuria and Faijul Haque. Two other local people were also injured during the firing. They are Nur Islam and Rebati Bharali. They have been admitted to Narayana Hospital and shifted to the GMCH later. The police recovered a bag full of suspected drugs from the vehicle. The vehicle of the peddlers knocked several vehicles of that area. The situation is now under control, the police said.
