Assam: Drugs Worth Rs 7 Crores Seized, 3 Held in Karbi Anglong

GUWAHATI : Assam police continues to excel in its drive against drug menace. Adding on to the series of drugs seizure episodes, three person from Karbi Anglong district got arrested for drug smuggling. The episode took place after contraband drugs of approximately Rs 7 crore were seized from two trucks on 8th of December, 2022. 

The seizure was made near Assam-Nagaland border in Khatkhati area on Thursday night. A police officer informed that, based on prior information, the Karbi Anglong police team headed by Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong district, John Das initiated a vehicle checking in the area.

Both the trucks were searched during the operation. One of the trucks with Nagaland registration number NL-02N-3758, contained 30,000 Yaba tablets. On the other hand, 757.15 gm of heroine was seized from a truck bearing Manipur registration number MN-01-9912.

The heroine was packed in 55 soap cases. As per the international demand, the illicit items were worth Rs 7 crore. Three persons were detained from the spot in connection with the smuggled drugs, added the police officer.

The accused has been identified as 29 year- old Islam Uddin, 33 year- old Md Samir and 35 year- old Md Manaobi of Manipur. CM Hemanta Biswa Sharma also tweeted regarding the catch by Assam police, and praised their effort.

The intercepted trucks were travelling from neighbouring states, stated the CM in his tweets. There have been back to back cases of contraband drugs in Assam's Karbi Anglong district. In a recent episode, drugs worth Rs 10 crore were seized by Assam police in Karbi Anglong district on 26th of October, 2022. Four people were detained in relation with the case and 1,263 kg of illicit drugs were recovered from two four wheelers.

One of the accused was a resident of Assam and the three other from other states, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had tweeted then.
