Assam: Drunk Driver Hits MLA’s Convoy, MLA and his Body Guard Injured

DULIYAJAN: A major accident took place in the Duliajan town of Assam on Thursday night when a driver hit the vehicles of the local MLA and other political leaders.

According to sources, a Hyundai i20 vehicle bearing registration number AS 06 V 7488 collided with three vehicles in the convoy of the local MLA who was travelling with other political leaders. As a result of the accident, Duliajan MLA Terash Gowalla sustained some amount of injuries along with one of his bodyguards.

The MLA was on his way from Aamguri in Sivasagar at around 11 PM when this accident took place near Jayanagar in Duliajan. Apart from the Toyota Innova vehicle belonging to MLA Terash Gowalla, another Toyota Innova vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 FQ 4083 was damaged in the accident. This vehicle had a woman representative of the party, who was also injured in the accident.

A team from the Duliajan Police Station arrived at the location and took control of the situation. They managed to rescue the people involved in the accident and thereafter seized the vehicle which committed the accident. It was mentioned that the driver belonged to Madhuting and was in an inebriated state.

Previously, two youths lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Golaghat district, officials said. The accident happened late Wednesday night in the Furkating area of the Golaghat district. The dead have been identified as Bijit Bhuyan and Martinez Kerketa. According to police, they were riding on a particular stretch, when the vehicle went off the road due to overspeeding and struck a tree.

Bhuyan and Kerketa sustained major injuries and died on the spot. However, the locals rushed them to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead. Upon learning about the incident, the police reached the spot. The bodies were sent for autopsy.
