Assam: Durga idols immersed in Demow river

DEMOW: After five days of Durga Puja celebrations, on Tuesday, the immersion of Durga idols was done in Demow River. There were 8 Durga Puja pandals in Demow town this time and the Kedarnath-themed pandal at Demow Central Market managed to draw attention. The Demow Thakurbari Sarbajanin Sri Sri Durga Puja is one of the oldest Durga Puja in Demow area. Under the patronage of Demow Santipur Nabajyoti Sangha and in association with the people, the 51st Durga Puja was organized in Radha Krishna Mandir premises.

A cultural procession was taken out by different puja committees in Demow on Tuesday afternoon and 8 Durga idols were immersed in Demow river on Tuesday. Security was beefed up in Demow and its surroundings areas during Durga Puja. Aditya Vickram Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district visited the immersion site in Demow river on Tuesday evening and took stock of the situation. Nabajyoti Saharia, Demow Circle Officer, Pollabita Boruah Gogoi, chairman of Demow Municipal Board, medical staff, SDRF officials along with other officials were present in the immersion area on Tuesday. However, no untoward incident took place in Demow during the days of festivity.
