GUWAHATI: Srutimala Duara, an associate professor at Handique Girls College, passed away on Monday at around 11:15 am.
She was an author and assistant professor in the English department. After receiving a cancer diagnosis, she wrote the book "My Journey through Cancer" about her experience.
Srutimala Duara's book, My Journey through Cancer, published by WissenMonk Publishing, was launched by Northeast Writers' Forum in India Club Guwahati on November 20, 2022 in the presence of Dr. Neelakshi Mahanta, HoD, Oncology, State Cancer Institute and Sahitya Akademi Award Winner Dr. Pori Hiloidari. Dipanjol Deka, secretary NEWF, welcomed the guests.
Dr. Neelakshi spoke on Srutimala Duara as her patient, her courage and positive vibes. Srutimala Duara spoke how she started writing on the very day she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
She said she wanted to share her experiences with a wider world of readers, as she felt it might "help people who take life for granted with the belief that cancer happens to others, not to them, women who think nothing can be wrong with their bodies just because there is no outward sign and do not go for yearly checkup, and for those diagnosed with cancer. Hence, this book."
In the early hours of Monday in Sivasagar, Assam, Vaishnav Pandit Lilakanta Mahanta, the father of former director general of police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, passed away. He was 92 years old.
He served as Sri Sri Borkhatpar Satra's previous Satradhikar. At roughly 2.15 am, Sri Sri Lilakanta Mahanta passed away at his home in Konwarpur.
Due to an illness brought on by advancing age, he had been gravely ill for the past few days. Sri Sri Lilakanta Mahanta presided over the Asom Sattra Mahasabha twice during his lifetime.
