Assam: Electricity Department Customer Gets Rs 35260 Bill for 10 Days

MANKACHAR: In a bizarre development, the electricity department of the state has served a bill of Rs 35260 to a person for a duration of just 10 days. This development triggered anger against the concerned department among the local people.

According to the complaints of the victim, Ambiya Begum had already cleared all her previous dues till 31 August of this year. But on September 10 she received a message saying that she still had to pay the department Rs 35260 as it was pending. The victim panicked soon after seeing the amount mentioned in the bill and questioned how it was possible that such an amount could be billed in just 10 days by the department.

Following this development, the victim filed a written complaint at the office of the District Commissioner regarding the incident on Wednesday. The local people also demanded that proper action be taken against those responsible for these incidents and protect the people from the harassment of the concerned power department.

Apart from these, the improper supply of power had triggered massive protests in multiple locations of the state. Despite charging a lot, the people of some regions of the state are unable to receive uninterrupted power supply and this has been the reason for the anger of many people across the state. Recently protests were staged in the Lumding region of the state against the same problem. Protesting against the power department, the local people of Lumding pointed out that they received power for only 3-4 hours out of 24 hours a day. The scorching heat and the lack of electric power supply had triggered the anger of the people.
