Assam: Elephant kills owner in Tamulpur district

GORESWAR: A person died on the spot in an attack of a domestic elephant on Wednesday morning at Simlibari village under Goreswar circle in Tamulpur district.

An eyewitness claimed that the owner of a domestic elephant from Sipajhar in the Darrang district, Khargeswar Deka (71), approached the elephant with its mahout in order to remove the chain from its legs. However, the domestic elephant unexpectedly attacked the owner and killed him there in the village of Simlibari, at the Borapara settlement.

The circle officer, Manashjyoti Borah rushed to the spot and took immediate measures to send the body for postmortem and to tranquillize the elephant.
