GUWAHATI : In an unfamiliar incident on the very first day of New Year 2023, a family themselves handed over a thief to the police department.
The thief has been identified as Shibu Kumar who managed to escape the custody with handcuffs. Shibu escaped while he was taken for a regular medical check up by the department. It is to be noted that, the accused has his name registered several times for indulging in theft activities across the city.
In the latest case, he was nabbed by the Bharalamukh police team. The accuse is a resident of Guwahati's Fatasil Ambari area. He escaped the police custody on 1st of January and headed towards his home.
But on Monday he was brought back by his own family, making the task of police easier. The security system of Bharalumukh police station will be questioned, as despite tight security arrangements criminals are able to fly away with hand cuffs.
The reports were released on Monday by the concerned station, regarding the well known two wheeler thief. According to Bharalumukh police officials, Shibu is one of the most notorious thief in the city.
His name has popped up in relation with several two wheeler robbery incidents. He ran away cunningly from the police custody at night, added the official. They were rigorously in search of him, but luckily his own family handed him to the police.
In 2022, a similar incident took place where a prisoner escaped the custody in Karimganj district. The criminal was taken to a district court where in the name of washroom he ran away.
The Karimganj police later found that, the accused had broke the glass ventilator to escape from the custody. The prisoner was arrested due to drug charges on him and his name was Abdul Mujib.
