Assam: Exhibition on Khadi products begins at Sivasagar

In a bid to promote Khadi and Village Industries as well as handloom and handicrafts, the Handicrafts Service Centre, Jorhat under Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is organizing a seven day long exhibition at Zoonskaya Resort of Sivsagar.

SIVASAGAR: In a bid to promote Khadi and Village Industries as well as handloom and handicrafts, the Handicrafts Service Centre, Jorhat under Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is organizing a seven day long exhibition at Zoonskaya Resort of Sivsagar. The exhibition will end on October 27. The objective of the exhibition is to promote Khadi and Handloom across the country and give recognition to the work of several artisans working towards the development of local handlooms and handicrafts. The exhibition is being organized during the ongoing Khadi Mahotsav from October 2 to October 31.

The exhibition features live demonstration of several handicraft techniques as well as the hand spinning charkha. Crafts Awareness and Crafts Demonstration Programme of the various crafts were also organized for the visitors. The exhibition showcases household items, showpieces as well as exquisite art and handicrafts products. The exhibition was inaugurated by Sh. Bitupan Neog, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar district.

The exhibition is organized under Marketing Support Services Scheme of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). Khadi Mahotsav campaign is to sensitise the youth towards Khadi, ‘Vocal for Local’ and make them aware about benefits of these to our economy, ecology & women empowerment and to encourage the public at large & youth in particular to buy Khadi & local products and inculcate in them pride for local products, stated a press release.
