GUWAHATI: At least three people have died in a blast that took place at NEEPCO's Kopili Hydroelectric Project in the Dima Hasao district of Assam on March 26.

As per reports, a high-speed water pipeline burst at the Kopili hydropower plant in Assam's Dima Hasao district on Saturday morning which led to massive flooding at the power station, following which three employees of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) who were present at the site were killed in the mishap.

Of the three NEEPCO employees, two were reported to be residents of Assam's Jorhat and Tinsukia District while one was from Dima Hasao District respectively.

The deceased have been identified as Dimaraj Jahari, a contractual employee, Anupam Saikia, the Deputy Manager, and Jayanta Saikia, the manager of the project.

Initial reports suggested that the penstock pipe that takes water from the Umrangso dam to the hydropower house burst during early hours in Assam's Dima Hasao district causing water to overflow in the entire area.

It may be mentioned that a similar incident was previously reported in the year 2019 in the Kopili Hydroelectric Project at Umrangso.
