Assam: Failing to Pay Debts, Husband-Wife Commits Suicide In Bajali District

A man and his wife were found hanging from the ceiling of their house in Kathalmuri village under Patacharkuchi police station.

GUWAHATI: A couple in the Bajali district of Assam allegedly committed suicide in Assam's Bajali district after failing to pay a huge amount of debt.

A man and his wife were found hanging from the ceiling of their house in Kathalmuri village under Patacharkuchi police station.

The deceased couple has been identified as Dilip Kalita (56) and Kunjalata Kalita (50).

Notably, prima facie appears to be a suicide case and a preliminary investigation has found that Dilip Kalita, who ran a pharmacy store in Bhagmara had a huge financial burden.

Meanwhile, locals allege that Dilip Kalita, owner of a pharmacy store, had borrowed a heavy sum of money from people, however, unable to repay the debt the couple took such a drastic steps.

Personnel of the Bhagmara police station have reached the spot and are currently investigating into the incident.

Earlier this month, a 65-year-old man died by suicide after consuming some poisonous substance in the Bajali district.

He died while undergoing treatment at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College & Hospital of Barpeta.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Chittaranjan Patgiri, a resident of the Muguria area of Pathsala.

The family members of the victim informed that the man was depressed for some days after his two sons were unable to get jobs in the Police department.
