GUWAHATI: In a significant breakthrough, Guwahati City Police apprehended a suspect and dismantled a counterfeit currency and fake gold production operation in Lokhra. Acting on precise intelligence, a specialized police unit executed a targeted raid in the Lokhra region, resulting in the confiscation of a high-tech currency printing machine and an astonishing sum of Rs 8 lakh in fake notes.

The individual taken into custody has been identified as Mannan Mallik, originating from Barpeta district. Notably, this operation follows the recent arrest of six individuals involved in similar counterfeit activities, yielding a staggering seizure of Rs 15 lakh in counterfeit currency.

This latest arrest was facilitated by insights garnered from preceding operations, highlighting the seamless coordination of law enforcement efforts.

Earlier in the week, another groundbreaking operation by Guwahati Police unfolded in Kahilipara locality, revealing not only fake Indian currency notes but also forged gold articles. The operation, executed by the Bhagadattapur Police Outpost team, unearthed counterfeit currency amounting to Rs 1,03,500. Furthermore, the investigators uncovered counterfeit replicas of a golden boat-shaped artifact, a Christ idol, and four 'Kharus' – traditional Assamese ornaments.

The raid yielded more than just counterfeit currency and faux gold; officials also successfully seized three mobile phones instrumental in the operation and a fabricated currency printing apparatus.

Meanwhile, the crackdown on the counterfeit network led to the detention of two intermediaries implicated in circulating the bogus currency and operating a fraudulent business that peddled counterfeit gold items to unsuspecting victims.

This series of operations underscores the Guwahati Police's determination to clamp down on counterfeit activities, preserving the integrity of both the local economy and residents. The swift and coordinated actions of the police have exposed the intricate web of fake currency and forgery, serving as a strong deterrent to potential fraudsters and reassuring the public of a safer community.
