SIVASAGAR : The arrest of a 'fake doctor' gave rise to a speculation that, there is an esoteric relationship between a section of health department officials and some crooked elements desiring jobs in Government hospitals.

On Wednesday, a doctor from Geleki Upper Assam in Sivsagar district, was arrested for not having a cogent registration number. The matter came into light during an investigation led by the Assam health department. It probed a list of doctors, who were shortlisted for counselling 2020, before they get assigned in government hospitals under National Health Mission (NHM).The accused has been identified as Debashis Dutta, who was supposedly shortlisted for the counselling .

The executive director of Assam National Health Mission, Manoj Choudhury stated that, D Dutta intentionally circulated a false list, where he had put his own name in place of an authentic candidate. He was not selected for the counselling 2020, and he made up the fake scenario to prove that he was a qualified doctor.

According to the reports, Debashis Dutta misplaced his name with a meritorious female doctor from Maharashtra, Shweta Mukesh Joshi. The registration number was allotted to her by Assam Council for Medical Registration (ACMR). As per sources, after Shweta Mukesh Joshi got the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Maharashtra, the registration number given to her by ACMR was frozen. Dutta used her MBBS registration number 26619 and portrayed himself as a deserving candidate.

Shweta Mukesh Joshi pursued her post- graduation from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in gynaecology and obstetrics department.

The Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sivsagar, Debajit Nath said that, despite trying his luck in entrance examinations, Debashis failed to acquire an MBBS seat anywhere in the country. He doesn't have a medical degree and started practising a few months ago, at a private hospital in Sivsagar.

The entire case came into existence on a basis of a complaint filed by Abhijit Neog, the chief operating officer of Arya Hospital. According to Neog, someone from the health department itself suggested Dutta to use the frozen registration number as no other doctor would claim it.
