GORESWAR: Binay Barman (43) of Deusunga village under Goreswar circle in the Tamulpur district died on the spot after being attacked by a wild elephant on Tuesday night.

Residents of the Indo-Bhutan border area under Tamulpur district have been passing sleepless nights for the last few days due to intermittent depredations caused by wild elephants. On Tuesday night, a herd of wild elephants entered the Deusunga area in search of fodder from the nearby Bhutan hills.

The herd moved to a number of villages near the Bogamati picnic spot under Goreswar circle in the Tamulpur district. One wild elephant separated from the herd and destroyed paddy fields in Deusunga. A group of people of the village went to their paddy field to save the paddy from the wild elephant and tried to chase the elephant.
